Winnebago Friends Worship Group
Religious Society of Friends (Quaker)
During the school year, we meet on the first through fourth Sundays of each month at The Gathering Place (620 Elmwood Ave., Oshkosh, WI 54901, http://www.lcmosh.org), and on any fifth Sunday of the month at a member’s home.
Our summer schedule varies with members’ vacation plans, and is announced in advance to everyone on our contact list.
We have an adult discussion, intergenerational activity, or business meeting (the first Sunday of each month) at 10:00 a.m. and meeting for worship at 11:00 a.m., followed by fellowship over a potluck meal. Meeting for worship may start with worship sharing in response to a query, but is otherwise unprogrammed.
Children join at least the second half of meeting for worship, and have separate programmed activities or free time during adult discussion or business meeting.
Please bless us with your presence!
In unprogrammed meeting for worship, we gather to listen for the presence of God within and among us, waiting in silent communion to experience that presence more fully. Each worshiper may at any time be led to share a message that she or he discerns to be from the Divine. Meeting ends when our clerk stands to start a circle of hands held around the group.
In worship sharing, we pose an open-ended question — about some aspect of our faith, community, testimonies or that morning’s discussion topic — and all seek prayerfully to discern and share a response.
For more on the faith and practices we share with other Friends (Quakers), read chapters here, starting with “Faith of Friends of Northern Yearly Meeting” and “Meeting for Worship.”
